What are Civil Rights?

Martin Luther King Jr.'s famous Washngton march

A good question to ask is what are civil rights? Many people have different definitions of civil rights and some people don't even know what it means when studying the civil rights movement. Civil rights is basically the rights of citizens to political, social freedom and equality.

The civil rights movement in the United States occurred around the late 1950s and lasted to around the late 1960s. African Americans wanted their rights that they deserved for living in the United States. It was a big time in history for African Americans in the United States. The civil rights didn't just occur in the United States but also occurred around the world. From women rights to discrimination.
